Note: Microsoft Knowledge Base article 810905 may be relevant to the issue. If the following solution does not resolve the issue, refer to articles such as this on the Microsoft Web site.

To resolve the issue, Quicken 2000 must be Release 2 (R2) or later. To find out which version of Quicken is installed, follow these steps.

  1. Open Quicken.

    • From the Windows XP default Start menu, point to All Programs, Quicken, and then click Quicken 2xxx.

    • From the classic Start menu, point to Programs, Quicken, and then click Quicken 2xxx.

  2. In the Quicken window, click Help, press and hold the CTRL key, and then click About Quicken.

  3. The version of Quicken is listed at the top of the Quicken for Windows dialog box.

If Quicken Release 1 is installed, download and install the latest update for Quicken, available from the Intuit Web site at: http://www.intuit.com/support/quicken/updates/qkn_updates_win2000.html

After Quicken Release 2 (R2) or later is installed, use the following steps to disable Background Download Manager (Qagent.exe).

1. Open Quicken.

  • From the Windows XP default Start menu, point to All Programs, Quicken, and then click Quicken 2xxx.

  • From the classic Start menu, point to Programs, Quicken, and then click Quicken 2xxx.

2. In the Quicken window, on the Edit menu, point to Options, and then click Internet Options.

3. In the Customize Quicken 2xxx Download dialog box, click the Connection tab, and then click Don't use background downloading.

Note: Do not click OK.

4. In the Customize Quicken 2xxx Download dialog box, press ALT+SHIFT+4.

5. In the Quicken 2xxx for Windows dialog box, click Yes.

Note: If the Quicken 2000 for Windows dialog box does not open after pressing ALT+SHIFT+4, the version of Quicken may not be Release 2 or later.

5. In the Customize Quicken 2xxx Download dialog box, click OK.

6. In the Quicken window, on the File menu, click Exit.

7. Restart the computer.
