Get a firmware upgrade for your recorder from the manufacturers website.

Resolution:

1. Download and install the most recent program updates for Easy CD and DVD Creator 6.x.
a. Log on to the internet.
b. Open up your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) and visit the following website: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/software_updatesv6_plat.jhtml
2. Remove any other recording software that is installed on your computer using "Add/Remove Programs".
a. If running Windows 98/ME/2K click on the "Start" button, then select "Settings" and then select "Control Panel". If running Windows XP click on the "Start" button, then select "Control Panel".
b. In the "Control Panel", double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
c. Look through the Programs list to see if you find any other CD Burning application. Some of the more common applications are listed here:
- Ahead INCD
- Veritas Recordnow
- HP Recordnow
- Sonic Simple Backup
- Sonic MyDVD
- Sonic DLA
- Music Match Jukebox.

3. Disabling the IMAPI CD Burning COM Service (Windows XP Users Only)
When you drag and drop directly to the recorder you will be using the Windows XP internal burning function and not Drag-to- Disc. If IMAPI was used at anytime after formatting the disc, you will have to erase your disc and start again. We would recommend disabling IMAPI to avoid conflict.
a. Click on "Start" button, then select "My Computer".
b. In the "My Computer" window you should see an icon(s) for your CD/DVD Recorder(s).
c. Right-click on the icon for your CD/DVD Recorder and then select "Properties".
d. Select the "Recording" tab by left clicking on it.
e. Uncheck the checkmark beside the "Enable CD recording on this drive" option.
f. Click the "Apply" button, then click the "OK" button.
g. Close the "My Computer" windows by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the window.
h. Click on the "Start" button, then select "Turn Off Computer", then select "Restart"
4. Disable DMA
a. Right-click on "My Computer" and click "Properties". Click the "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button.
b. Double-click "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" to display the list of controllers and channels.
c. Right-click the icon for the channel that the device is connected to, select "Properties", and then click the "Advanced Settings" tab.
Note: Most recorders are on the Secondary Channel
d. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select "PIO Only."
e. Click "Ok" and close the system properties window.
f. Reboot the computer.

5. Hardware troubleshooting you can try
a. Update the IDE controllers and BIOS for the motherboard.
b. Change the IDE cable to an 80 pin cable if using a 40 pin.
c. Try making sure that the recorder is the the master on the secondary and no other device is hooked up on the same IDE channel.
d. Have the recorder serviced and the laser lens cleaned.
