Information:

Step 1 Overview:

Windows XP can boot into Safe Mode if there are device driver problems that are preventing it from Starting. Safe Mode starts the system with only the drivers necessary to operate. To start the system in Safe Mode, hold the F8 key during boot. The Safe Mode boot menu will appear, showing the Safe Mode Options.

Step 2 Safe Mode:

The first Safe Mode option is Safe Mode. This starts the system with only basic display, keyboard, and mouse drivers. Using this mode, you should be able to remove any device drivers or applications causing conflicts.

Step 3 Safe Mode With Networking:

Safe Mode with Networking boots the system with the basic Safe Mode Drivers, but includes network support. If the network drivers are causing problems on the system, this mode will not boot.

Step 4 Command Prompt:

Safe Mode with Command Prompt boots the system with only the basic Safe Mode drivers, but instead of booting to the desktop, the command prompt is displayed after logging on. This is good for moving or replacing files.
