Summary:

You should not follow this procedure if the system is part of a workgroup.

Resolution:

  1. First Logon at startup do not cancel.
  2. Go to Control Panel and double click on Network
  3. On the Configuration tab, select Windows Logon in the Primary Windows Network Logon box.
  4. Do not restart computer.
  5. In Control Panel double click Passwords.
  6. On the Change Passwords tab, click Change Windows Password.
  7. In the Change Windows Password dialog box, enter your old password and then enter new and confirm as a Blank password.
  8. On the User Profiles tab, check the option that says All users of this PC use the same preferences and click OK.
  9. Go to Start and Search or Find on Windows 98, and choose Files and Folders and search for everything of the type *.pwl and delete.
  10. Reboot. May have to reboot twice since the first time around it may still ask for the password but indicate that if you don t enter one it will not ask again.
