You may receive one of the following error messages on your Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer that has Microsoft Money installed:
"Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one."
If you receive the following message, insert the Money CD to see if that resolves the issue:
Please insert the Money CD and try again.
If the issue is not resolved, follow these steps.
Step 1: Back up your Money data file
We recommend that you make a backup of your Money data file first. To copy your Money data file to the desktop, follow these steps:

Click Start, and then click Search. |
| 2. |
Click All files and folders. |
| 3. |
In the All or part of the file name box, type *.mny. |
| 4. |
On the Look in list, click My Computer, and then click Search. |
| 5. |
In the list of found files, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then click each Money data file that you want to copy. |
| 6. |
Right-click the files, and then drag the files that you selected to the Microsoft Windows desktop, and then click Copy Here. |
| 7. |
Close the Search Results window. |
Step 2: Remove Money
Microsoft Money 2001
To remove Money 2001, follow the steps that are listed in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Microsoft Money 2002 and later versions
To remove Money 2002 and later versions, follow these steps:

1. Perform a clean boot of your Windows XP-based computer. To do this, follow these steps:
| a. |
Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK. |
| b. |
On the General tab, click Selective Startup. |
| c. |
Click to clear the Process SYSTEM.INI File check box, click to clear the Process WIN.INI File check box, and then click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. |
| d. |
On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
Note If you do not have any non-Microsoft services running on your computer, the Disable All button will appear dimmed and is unavailable. |
| e. |
Click OK, and then click Restart to restart your computer. |

2. Delete the Money installation folder. To do this, follow these steps:
| a. |
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer. |
| b. |
Locate the Money installation folder or the Microsoft Money 2005 installation folder. By default, the Money installation folder is located in one of the following locations depending on the version of Money that you are running:
Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Money
Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005
Note In these folder names, Drive is the drive where Money is installed. |
| c. |
Right-click the Microsoft Money folder or right-click the Microsoft Money 2005 folder, and then click Delete. |
| d. |
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes two times. |
| e. |
Quit Microsoft Windows Explorer. |

3. Delete the Money registry subkeys. To do this, follow these steps.
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. |
| b. |
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Money |
| c. |
On the Edit menu, click Delete. |
| d. |
To confirm the deletion, click Yes. |
| e. |
Repeat steps b through d for the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Money |
| f. |
Quit Registry Editor. |

4. Restart your computer in Normal mode. To do this, follow these steps:
| a. |
Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK. |
| b. |
On the General tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services. |
| c. |
Click OK, and then click Restart when you are prompted to restart your computer. |

Step 3: Reinstall Money
Reinstall Money on your computer. If Money does not automatically open after you reinstall it, open the Money data file that you want. To do this, follow these steps:

In Money, click Open on the File menu. |
| 2. |
Locate and then click the Money file that you want to open. |
| 3. |
Click Open. |
