Symptom:
When you upgrade Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition to Microsoft XP Professional, or if you try to repair Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional, you may receive the following error message:
UNREGMP2.EXE - Entry Point Not Found-
The procedure entry point getIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library msdart.dll.
If you click OK, the error message reappears. If you continue to click OK to close the error message, the message will eventually stop appearing. This typically takes between 50 and 60 clicks.
Cause:
This problem occurs when the most current version of Microsoft Windows Media Player is installed. The current version is Microsoft Windows Media Player 10. When you try to upgrade or to repair Windows XP, the Setup program will try to install an earlier version of Windows Media Player in addition to the newer version. The installation will then generate the error message and stop.
Workaround:
To work around this problem, use Task Manager to close the error message. To do this, follow these steps:

Press SHIFT + F10 to open a Command Prompt window. |
2. |
Type taskmgr.exe and then press ENTER. |
3. |
Click the Applications tab. |
4. |
In the list of tasks, click the error message entry. |
5. |
Click End Task. |
6. |
Quit Task Manager. |
7. |
Close the Command Prompt window. |
If the error message returns or continues to display, follow these steps:
1. |
Press SHIFT + F10 to open a Command Prompt window. |
2. |
Type taskmgr.exe, and then press ENTER. |
3. |
Click the Processes tab. |
4. |
Click unregmp2.exe in the list of processes. |
5. |
Click End Process. |
6. |
Quit Task Manager. |
7. |
Close the Command Prompt window. |
