The default synchronization rate in XP is 1 week, and this is not a user configurable parameter.

But you can use registry editor to change this setting to whatever you like. It is located in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesW32TimeTimeProvidersNtpClientSpecialPollInterval

To make your computer resynchronize with an NTP server sooner, you can edit this value using regedit. Double-click the registry entry, change the "Base" attribute to decimal. This is the value stored in seconds, the default value is 604800 seconds, ie one week. Since my computer loses time fairly quickly, I have mine set at 900 seconds (15 minutes).
