Summary:

When a shortcut requires a key combination, the StickyKeys feature lets you press a modifier key, such as Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or the Windows Logo key, and have it remain active until another key is pressed.

To activate StickyKeys:

  1. Press the Shift key five times. A dialog box opens with instructions on how to set up the StickyKeys feature.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. On the Keyboard tab click the option to Use StickyKeys.
  4. Click Settings if you need to change any of the settings.
  5. Click Apply and OK.

To deactivate StickyKeys:

  1. Press the Shift key five times. A dialog box opens with instructions on how to set up the StickyKeys feature.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. On the Keyboard tab uncheck the option to Use StickyKeys.
  4. Click Apply and OK.

If none of the above works the shortcut may be switched off. Go to Start->Control Panel->Accessibility Options. Select the Keyboard tab and turn sticky keys on or off by selecting the Use Stick Keys option. To turn the shortcut on (so that pressing shift 5 times works), select Settings at the top right of the dialog box and check Use Shortcut. Clink OK and close all the windows.
