Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic CD is used to diagnose the memory of a computer. If you don't have the CD, you can download and burn it in a CD. However, Windows Vista already has the Memory Diagnostic Tool inbuilt in the Setup DVD.

How to diagnose memory using Vista DVD?

1. Insert the Vista DVD in the CD/DVD drive.

2. Hold down the space bar or press it numerous times. Windows Boot Manager will be brought up.

3. The boot manager allows you to choose from two different options: Windows Setup, or Windows Memory Diagnostic. Use the TAB key to select Windows Memory Diagnostic and hit Enter.

4. After selecting the Memory Diagnostic, it will start scanning your memory immediately. You'll see the progress bar towards the top of the window. If it finds any faults, you'll see them listed in the middle of the window.

5. Press F1 at any time to change your options, like which memory tests are done and how many passes to do (default is to run infinitely).

6. When one pass is finished, it will automatically start the next. Hit the ESC key when you want to stop the test.
