This aritlce will guide you how to restore your Windows 7 hard disk back to exactly how it was when you created a system image backup.

Important:

  • When you restore your computer from a image backup, it is a complete restoration. You can't choose individual items to restore, and all of your current programs, system settings, and files are replaced.

  • If your backup image is on a external device (ex: USB drive), then make sure it is connected before starting.

1. Insert the Windows 7 installation disc or System Repair Disc into the CD/DVD drive and restart the computer.
Note: Check to make sure that you set the BIOS to have the CD or DVD drive listed first in the boot order.

2. If prompted, press any key to boot from the Windows 7 installation DVD. (See screenshot below)
Note: You will only have about 8 seconds to press this key.

3. Select your language preferences and click on Next. (See screeshot below).

4. Click on Repair your computer. (See screenshot below)

5. Select the Windows 7 installation you need to repair. If you have installed multiple versions of Windows 7, be sure to choose the correct one. (See screenshot below)

6. The System Recovery Options menu opens. Now Click on Command Prompt option.

7. A command prompt window will now open.

Note: To exit and restart to the Windows 7 logon screen, close the command prompt window and click on the Restart button on the screenshot above.
